Many people dont know that good oral health is also a step toward a healthier life!
Recent research suggests that there may be a link between dental diseases such as gum disease (i.e. periodontal disease) and other health problems. There is evidence that bacteria in the mouth associated with gum disease may be linked to heart disease, artery blockage and stroke. In addition, studies also show that pregnant women with gum disease may be at increased risk for pre-term delivery, which in turn increases the risk of having a low-birth-weight baby. People with diabetes also often have periodontal disease. Given these potential links, prevention of periodontal disease is an important step in maintaining overall health.
Our overall health can also be affected when we dont have a healthy bite and healthy jaw joints. Many people suffer from such seemingly separate symptoms as headaches, earaches, muscle and jaw tenderness or dull aching facial pain. These people are suffering from a family of problems relating to the jaw muscles and jaw joints and are commonly called TMJ disorders. If left untreated these problems may also affect our health and our ability to lead normal daily lives.
Healthy beautiful smiles help us project an image of self-confidence and high personal esteem. When you feel good about yourself, it shows in your appearance and overall health. Todays advanced material and techniques can make a real difference and can help correct a wide variety of so-called permanent problems.
Dr. Currie and his well-trained staff are well aware of the connection between healthy mouths and our overall health. They are trained to recognize and treat these problems which are often overlooked.
